Grand Teton National Park

Grand Teton National Park

Rising abruptly from flatland meadows and glacial lakes, the Grand Tetons boast some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. The Rocky Mountain range lacks any typical rolling foothills at its base; the crags and peaks rise above Jackson Hole as if they burst forth straight from the earth. The beauty and diversity in both animal and plant life prompted the federal government to take measures to preserve its future, and in 1929, Grand Teton National Park was signed into law by former President Calvin Coolidge.

Grand Teton animals and wildlife boasts over 1,000 species of plants and 400 species of animals that live within the borders of the park. Pines and conifers decorate the landscape up to 10,000 feet in elevation, and the lower reaches and valleys are spotted with a vastly diverse group of flowering plants. Animal populations offer a veritable zoology lesson for the Western United States. The Grand Tetons house over 300 species of birds, 16 of fish, and over 50 of mammals; at any given time you may have the opportunity to view bears, mountain lions, Snake River Cutthroats, bald and golden eagles, bison, moose, marmots, and more! Experienced guides are available to help increase your chances of seeing these plants and animals firsthand.

Grand Teton National Park encompasses over 96,000 acres, over 100 miles of paved road for cyclists, 200 miles of hiking trails, numerous lakes, streams and rivers (including the famous Snake River), and five beautiful main campgrounds. Of course, more adventurous folk can explore to their hearts content – backcountry campsites are very popular.
